MOROCCO, IN – A four-decade-long mystery surrounding a missing Chicago teen has finally been solved by the Newton County Coroner’s Office.
The young man, formerly known as “Adam Doe,” was identified as Keith Lavell Bibbs, who vanished at the age of 16 from Chicago, IL. The breakthrough in the case came with the help of the DNA Doe Project, the Identify Indiana Initiative, and the Indiana State Police Lab.
Keith was one of the four young men found on an abandoned farm in rural Lake Village in October 1983, sending shockwaves through the nation as the heinous acts of serial killer Larry Eyler, infamously known as the “Highway Killer,” came to light. Tragically, all four victims had been drugged and brutally murdered by the sadistic killer.
For years, Keith’s true identity remained concealed, but thanks to the relentless efforts of the DNA Doe Project, a 501(c)(3) volunteer group dedicated to solving cold cases, a potential match was discovered. With the collaboration of Rebecca Goddard, Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Newton County, and the utilization of Genetic Genealogy, they reached out to potential family members and analyzed their DNA using the GEDMatch program, leading to the critical match that finally brought closure to this cold case.
