Springfield, IL – Central Illinois faces a heightened risk of severe thunderstorms Thursday, as outlined by the National Weather Service. 

The region, particularly south of I-72, is bracing for a tempestuous day, with potential for quarter-sized hail and tornadoes. Gusts over 60 mph are anticipated. Residents are advised to remain vigilant from noon to 8 pm, seeking shelter indoors and staying informed through multiple channels for weather warnings. 

The storms come amidst a stark temperature gradient, with cooler conditions and possible frost expected by the weekend.
