KANKAKEE, IL — In a heartwarming initiative this holiday season, Illinois State Senator Patrick Joyce is rallying the community to participate in the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs 2023 Operation Rising Spirit campaign. Joyce, representing Essex, is promoting the simple yet profound act of writing uplifting notes to veterans.
Initiated in 2020 during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Operation Rising Spirit was designed to provide solace to veterans who could not see their families and friends. The campaign has been a beacon of hope and connection, with over 5,000 letters sent to veterans during the 2022 holiday season alone.
Senator Joyce is passionately encouraging both individuals and organizations to join in this year’s efforts. “It is the little notes and gestures like this that help uplift our veterans during the holiday season,” Joyce remarked. The campaign aims to continue showing gratitude and support to those who have bravely served the nation.
To get involved, participants can send their letters to Crystal Womack at the IDVA Central Office or submit them online through the IDVA website. The letters will be evenly distributed among the state’s five veterans’ homes, ensuring each veteran feels the warmth and gratitude of the Illinois community.
