KANKAKEE, IL – Amid a concerning statewide increase in COVID-19 cases, Kankakee and Iroquois counties are now facing a 233% surge in hospital admissions due to the virus.

This sharp rise contributes to the ten Illinois counties now designated as medium risk for COVID-related hospitalizations by the CDC. The public health alert underscores the necessity for robust safety measures: high-quality masking for high-risk individuals, regular self-testing, and up-to-date vaccinations—available twice weekly at the Kankakee County Health Department.

With other Illinois counties including Effingham and Fayette counties also experiencing an 800% increase, the CDC’s call for improved ventilation and adherence to isolation protocols is more urgent than ever as the community confronts this escalating health crisis.
