JOLIET, Ill. — Justen Holman, 21, from Plainfield, was charged with first-degree murder by Joliet Police after indicating to officers that he had killed someone, leading to the discovery of his mother’s death. Holman is currently held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

According to police reports the incident began when Holman approached officers in the 1500 block of North Larkin Ave. in Joliet, confessing to killing someone at his residence. This led police to his home in the 6400 block of Langsford Lane, where they found his 48-year-old mother with gunshot wounds, later pronounced dead by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation was triggered by a 911 call from Holman, seeking to surrender for an unknown crime. The evidence gathered led to his arrest and the first-degree murder charge. A handgun believed to be used in the shooting was also recovered.
