Michigan City, IN – Three firefighters narrowly escaped injury early Friday morning when a porch collapsed beneath them as they battled a house fire in Michigan City.

The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. at a three-story residence on Beachwalk Lane. Upon arrival, crews were met with significant smoke and flames, but confirmed the house was unoccupied at the time.

The swift response from the firefighters not only prevented any injuries among the crew but also quickly contained the fire, safeguarding surrounding properties. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has since initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire, employing a specially trained dog to detect any accelerants that may have been involved.
