CHICAGO, IL — With Thanksgiving approaching, the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana has issued a set of safety guidelines for those planning to use turkey fryers.

Highlighting the potential risks associated with these popular holiday cooking tools, the Union stresses the importance of setting up the fryer on a sturdy, level surface at least 10 feet away from any structures and clear of roof eaves.

They caution against overfilling the fryer with oil, recommending a water test to determine the correct oil level. The Union advises ensuring that turkeys are completely thawed and free of frost to prevent dangerous oil splattering. These measures are part of a broader effort to prevent accidents and ensure a safe holiday season.
