Blowing Dust Reduces Visibility in Northern Illinois, Weather Alert Issued

Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for several Illinois counties due to blowing dust and reduced visibility.

According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, strong northwest winds are causing visibility issues in Lee County, with alerts in place for Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Boone, and LaSalle counties until 6 PM CDT. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-45 mph. Drivers are advised to exercise caution.

Photos from Delaware County emergency management show dust clouds reducing visibility to a quarter-mile in some areas, particularly near freshly tilled fields.
