CRETE, ILLINOIS – Local authorities are on high alert following a unique report: a wallaby named Rupert is on the loose in Crete.

The Crete Police Department confirmed a possible sighting of the 2 ft tall, 45 lbs creature near Exchange and Independence. Residents are urged not to approach Rupert, as he’s likely to flee. Instead, if spotted, the public is advised to snap a photo or video of the location and immediately call 708-672-0911 or 708-710-3148.

A flyer circulating in the Air Park-GREEN GARDEN area on September 12 further emphasizes not to chase the skittish marsupial and to share any information that could assist in his safe return.
