CRETE, IL – Village officials announced Saturday they have postponed its board meeting originally scheduled for October 9th, 2023.

The decision comes in the wake of the recent passing of their esteemed Fire Chief, James “JP” Muirhead, who succumbed to an unexpected medical condition earlier this week.

Chief Muirhead’s dedication to the community was unparalleled. Having joined the Crete Fire Department in July of 2022, his 34-year-long career in firefighting was marked by commendable tenures at the Matteson Fire Department, the Crete Township Fire Protection District, and the Riverdale Fire Department. His commitment to the safety of Crete residents and the mentorship of fellow firefighters left an indelible impression.

The next Village of Crete board meeting will now be held at 524 W. Exchange St., on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 7 pm.
