Lake Zurich, IL – A man reportedly attacked a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy attempting to provide a welfare check early Sunday morning.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports the incident occurred on the frigid morning Sunday as deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence without working utilities on North High Ridge Drive.
Responding to concerns about the occupants’ well-being amid freezing temperatures, deputies found the family safe yet uncooperative. The situation escalated when a deputy, attempting to provide resources, was allegedly assaulted by a 30-year-old man from the household. The deputy, approaching with information on aid services, faced an unexpected attack as the man reportedly hurled a piece of wood and then physically assaulted her. A deployed Taser proved ineffective in stopping the assault.
Both the deputy and the attacker required medical attention, with the deputy being promptly treated and released. The man, exhibiting signs of self-harm, is now undergoing further psychological evaluation.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg expressed his relief that the deputy was safe and affirmed the department’s commitment to holding the assailant accountable through coordination with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
