Illinois Highway Horror: Construction Equipment Crash Leaves One Critically Injured

Elburn, IL – A catastrophic collision involving construction equipment on Illinois Route 47 has left one individual in critical condition. The incident, occurring at 1:44 PM on August 29, 2023, has sent shockwaves throughout the community.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred when a 2020 Mercedes Sprinter van, driven by Kendic Hasan, 47, veered into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2019 Ford F550 Super Duty truck hauling construction equipment. Matthew Smith, 33, was at the helm of the construction-laden Ford truck.

Tragically, Hasan was severely injured and airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital. Smith sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital. Investigators are examining seatbelt usage, as well as the potential involvement of alcohol or other substances.

Both drivers are local residents, with Kendic Hasan residing on Phar Lap Drive in St. Charles, and Matthew Smith on Pouley Road in Elburn.

As the investigation proceeds, no traffic citations have been issued, given the ongoing evidence processing and accident reconstruction. The community remains on edge, awaiting updates on the incident.

This harrowing event underscores the importance of cautious driving and adherence to traffic rules. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office continues to work diligently to uncover the circumstances leading to this collision involving construction equipment.
