LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – A Demotte man’s alleged reckless road rage escalated into a series of alarming felonies, including throwing eggs and brandishing a pistol, leading to his arrest.

According to Indiana State Police, the harrowing encounter unfolded on Friday along I-65, leaving witnesses shocked and concerned for the safety of the occupants, particularly the presence of young children.

A frantic 911 call around 6:00 p.m. brought police to the victim who described how the suspect allegedly targeted the vehicle, pelting it with eggs before menacingly pointing a firearm at the car.  Throughout this terrifying ordeal, two young children, both under the age of five, were inside the victim’s car.

State Police located the suspect’s 2022 GMC Canyon as it neared the Lowell exit. During the traffic stop, State Police discovered a carton of eggs in the suspect’s vehicle, one of which had been used. The driver also reportedly confessed to possessing a firearm.

Paul Mihalich, a 65-year-old resident of Demotte, Indiana, was apprehended without further incident. He now faces multiple felony charges, including Intimidation with a Firearm and Pointing a Firearm along with Criminal Mischief, a Misdemeanor.

Final charges will be determined by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
