JOLIET, Ill. – Following the awarding of an $8.6 million grant to Joliet Township for asylum seeker support, officials have moved their upcoming meeting to the spacious Bicentennial Park in anticipation of a significant public turnout.

The decision to shift venues underscores the magnitude of community response to the grant. Will County Chair Judy Ogalla expressed her reservations about the move, criticizing the township for not informing the City of Joliet or Will County about the grant application.

Both Ogalla and Joliet’s Mayor have expressed being left out of initial communications. The pivotal meeting is slated for Tuesday, October 10th, 5 p.m. at 201 W. Jefferson Street. Public comments will follow the approval of the minutes.
