KANKAKEE – A late night traffic crash Friday between a semi and a car claimed the life of a Cedar Lake man.

According to Illinois State Police, it happened at 9:31 p.m. last night on Route 17 at 16000 East Road in Kankakee County.  That’s when a 2016 Blue Chevrolet Sonic Sedan failed to stop at a stop sign and hit an empty tanker of a 2022 White Peterbilt Truck-Tractor/Tank Trailer.

The deceased was identified Sunday afternoon by Illinois State Police as 35-year-old John. E. Niles of Cedar Lake, Indiana.  The driver of the semi 60-year-old, David W. Nagel of Green Bay, Wisconsin, suffered minor injuries in the incident.
