Fireworks Horror: Illinois Resident Critically Injured in Fourth of July Incident

Unincorporated Cary, IL – A commercial grade firework exploded in a man’s face, leaving him critically injured. 

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, the incident occurred during a Fourth of July gathering in Unincorporated Cary when an unidentified 58-year-old man brought several commercially rated fireworks to the event, lighting one that failed to detonate. 

As the man inspected the firework, it discharged and struck his face, resulting in severe head and facial injuries. 

The Man was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office collected unexploded fireworks for disposal and is investigating possible criminal charges related to the incident.
