Loan Program Offers iPhones and iPads for Deaf and Speech-Impaired Individuals in Illinois

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Options Center for Independent Living (CIL) is proud to announce a new program that offers loaner iPhones and iPads for individuals who are deaf or have permanent speech disabilities in Illinois. The devices come pre-installed with communication apps, allowing users to easily communicate with others.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be Illinois residents with an active phone service and a speech disability or be deaf. For those who use American Sign Language (ASL) as their primary form of communication, they may also apply for the Deaf iPhone/Deaf iPad loan program.

To apply, applicants must have their application signed by a doctor, audiologist, speech-language pathologist, hearing aid specialist, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Additionally, those applying for the Deaf iPhone/Deaf iPad loan program must complete a loan agreement and have their certification signed by a doctor, audiologist, or hearing aid specialist.

Applicants must be at least 5 years of age, and a copy of their birth certificate is required if they are under 18 years old. Applications are available at both Options CIL office locations or can be downloaded online.
