Student killed in homicide on campus at Purdue University, victim, suspect roommates

WEST LAFAYETTE – Police have arrested a suspect after an early morning call reported a homicide at Purdue University.

According to Police, it happened around 12:45 a.m. when officers received a call a homicide had occurred on campus.  Police activity was reported outside of McCutcheon Hall, a student dorm on campus, but the building itself was not identified by police.

Purdue officials confirmed the victim has been identified as 20-year-old Varun Manish Chheda, a senior in the College of Science.  

The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Ji Min Sha, a junior from Korea studying Cybersecurity. Sha will be booked into county jail later today.

Both victim and suspect had been roommates at University. The murder is the first recorded at Purdue since 2014.
