PONTIAC – A man accused of robbing a Livingston County BP gas station and later leading police on a six hour car chase that ended with his stolen Honda going airborne and crashing into three Kankakee homes was found guilty in Livingston County Court last Friday.

According to police it happened on the afternoon of January 19th when 37-year-old Jarvis Postlewaite robbed the Pontiac BP gas station on Howard Street at gunpoint just before noon and fled the scene in a stolen 1999 Honda Accord.  Postlewaite was later spotted in nearby Dwight and took police on a six hour long car chase.  That chase reached speeds up to 100 mph multiple times before Postlewaite made it to Illinois Route 17 and finally Kankakee, crashing the stolen vehicle into three Kankakee homes in the 1800 and 1900 blocks of West Station Street.

Postlewaite was later arrested on foot in the backyard of a home in the 300 block of South Tanner Avenue with a black and silver handgun and cash taken from the gas station reportedly nearby.

No was was hurt in the robbery or any of the homes at the time.

“Because of his priors, Postlewaite was charged with Armed Robbery, Armed Habitual Criminal, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.  The jury returned guilty verdicts for all charges.  The defendant faces mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole.”  The Livingston County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement Friday.
