BECKER COUNTY, MN – A Minnesota motorcyclist lost his life Friday evening after evading a pursuing state trooper and subsequently crashing.
According to reports the ill-fated sequence of events unfolded on Friday evening around 6:14 p.m. when a Minnesota State Trooper attempted to halt a speeding motorcycle traveling south on Becker County Highway 29, near the intersection of County Highway 54. In a daring move, the motorcyclist refused to yield and instead accelerated at an alarming rate upon seeing the squad’s emergency lights flashing.
The state trooper’s attempt to catch the evasive motorcyclist ended tragically as they lost sight of the speeding bike, which continued its dangerous journey southward along County Highway 29. After an intense search effort, the trooper eventually located the motorcycle. It had careened off the road, coming to a catastrophic halt about 1.5 miles south of County Highway 54, precisely at a treacherous corner on Co. Highway 42.
The motorcyclist was identified as 25-year-old Levi Edward Savela from Sebeka, MN, was pronounced dead on the scene.
