Student in accidental discharge facing multiple Felony charges

KANKAKEE – The alleged teenage shooter in an accidental discharge that sent a Kankakee High School student to the hospital has been charged with multiple felonies in the case.

According to Kankakee City Police, the unidentified 17-year-old alleged to be in possession of the weapon that shot his fellow teen has been charged with reckless discharge of a weapon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.  Both charges are class 4 felonies and are punishable by 1 to 3 years in the prison and fined up to $25,000, each.  

Under Illinois law a judge is permitted to sentence a defendant to probation as oppose to time in custody.

Both teens were in a car headed to a convenient store near Kankakee High School Wednesday afternoon when the discharge occurred.
