Opinion: Four reasons Chicago as an NHL host city would be amazing, if not for a pandemic

We officially have a format for the NHL playoffs, 24 teams, four byes in each conference, (those teams will play in a round robin to determine seeding for… reasons?). The rest play in a best of five to move on. A big part of this is that the games will be in July with a small training camp in June.

This has one other big component.

One hub city for the teams of the Western Conference and one hub for the Eastern Conference. All games will be played inside the conferences like normal in these cities. There are several candidates that include Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Vancouver and finally Chicago.

Today I will explore a few reasons doing these in Chicago is a bad idea.
