CHICAGO – Illinois is set to redirect some 97,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Walgreens and CVS pharmacies across the state.

The redirect comes as some 3.2 million Illinois residents now become eligible for Phase 1B of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan.

Under a Federal Pharmacy Partnership Program (PPP), Walgreens and CVS were contracted to administer vaccinations to long-term care residents and staff across the country.  The Illinois Department of Public Health reported Wednesday morning 80,000 doses will go to CVS stores, while 17,000 doses will go to Walgreens stores.

Both stores will utilize doses to continue vaccination of long-term care residents and staff.

As of Tuesday, 163,592 vaccines had been administered at long-term care facilities statewide. Illinois has received nearly 2 million doses, including some 496,100 doses reserved for the PPP.

The state is now averaging over 44,000 doses administered daily in the past week.
