KANKAKEE – The Kankakee County Clerk’s office announced on Wednesday a press conference will be held tomorrow at 11am and streamed on the Clerk’s website.

The last time Kankakee County leadership addressed citizens in Kankakee collectively was on March 19th following the announcement of the first case of COVID-19.

Governor Pritzker’s revised stay-at-home order takes effect on Friday and runs through May 30th.

The update is said to include an update on local hospitals, public health and law enforcement.  An announcement of the creation of “The Kankakee County Coalition for a Responsible Reopening” is anticipated during the press conference.

Among speakers addressing area residents Friday include Phil Kambic, CEO of Riverside Hospital, Christopher Shride, CEO of AMITA Hospital, John Bevis, Administrator of the Kankakee Public Health Department, Robert Gessner, Kankakee County Coroner, Jim Rowe, Kankakee County States Attorney, Mike Downey, Kankakee County Sheriff, and Andrew Wheeler, Chairman of the Kankakee County Board.

This will be the first time in over a month since the pandemic elected leadership will collectively address area residents. Outside of the Kankakee County Health Department’s daily updates, City of Kankakee’s Mayor Wells-Armstrong has been a lone voice in the County among elected officials to regularly update to citizens on during the Pandemic outside of already occurring board meetings.
