On the rise: 715 COVID-19 cases Wednesday in Illinois, 9 new in Kankakee

Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 715 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 64 additional confirmed deaths.

It’s the first time Illinois had broke 700 cases in a 24-hour stretch since June 11th when the state announced 766 cases in the span of 24 hours. 

Among deaths announced today included three women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Nine new cases were announced in Kankakee County on Wednesday, the most since June 5th when 9 cases were announced in a 24 hour stretch.  This week, 20 new cases have been announced in the County.

There are now 232 active cases with 7 hospitalized in Kankakee.  Since the pandemic began, 63 have died in Kankakee County.

To date, IDPH is reporting a total of 138,540 cases, including 6,770 deaths, in 101 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.  Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 29,331 specimens for a total of 1,428,841.  The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from June 17–June 23 is 3%.
