VERMILLION COUNTY, IN – Local authorities have issued a warning to residents after a surge in fraudulent calls from scammers claiming to be from the “Publisher’s Clearing House.”

These con artists, primarily targeting older adults, falsely inform victims they’ve won vast sums but request “taxes” or “processing fees.” Payments are typically demanded via wire, cashier’s check, or even platforms like Venmo and PayPal.

Officials stress the importance of verification, urging residents to be cautious and remember: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” If asked to pay to receive a prize, it’s a scam.
