LAKE COUNTY – A day at Miller Beach turned tragic yesterday when the lifeless body of an 18-year-old man was retrieved from the choppy waters of Lake Michigan. Indiana Conservation Officers have launched an investigation into the incident.

Authorities say emergency personnel were called to the scene just before 3 p.m. when emergency personnel received reports of a missing person feared to have drowned in the lake.  Dive teams worked but had efforts hampered by six-foot waves that created a rip current in the search area.

Sometime around 6 p.m. a person noticed a body floating nearly a mile away from where the man was reported.  Recovery teams pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released.
