MOMENCE – In just over 48 hours, a GoFundMe set up for fallen Momence Police Officer Troy Jacobson has raised over $17,000 dollars of its $25,000 goal.

Officer Jacobson died early Thursday morning while on patrol after having a suspected medical event while behind the wheel, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash in Momence.

“He was a great guy who supported the community and a great husband and father,” wrote Brittney Sirois, the page’s organizer.  “I know times have been rough for most especially around the holidays, but if you can find it in your hearts to give anything, even if it’s just a share of this post to help Melany and the kids out during this horrible time that would be amazing.”

As of early Saturday afternoon, over 300 supporters have donated to the fundraiser for the Jacobsons.
