Illinois ATV Fire Claims Life of 8-Year-Old Bolingbrook Boy in Kankakee County

KANKAKEE COUNTY, Illinois – An ATV fire claimed the life of a Bolingbrook child Saturday.

According to authorities, it happened at 2:15 pm Saturday afternoon in the 12000 block of East Central Street in Pembroke Township when officials arrived to an emergency scene after two young riders riding an ATV found themselves engulfed in flames on the vehicle.  

Crews raced to aid the children, while one escaped the fiery scene, one was unable and trapped among the blaze. That child, identified by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office Sunday night as Dedrick T Vazquez, an 8-year-old boy from Bolingbrook, Illinois, died in the incident.

Authorities from the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department and the Pembroke Township Fire Department assisted on site.  

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.  An autopsy on the boy is scheduled for September 5th.
