Wildland fire breaks out Thursday in Essex

ESSEX, Ill. – The Essex Fire Protection District expressed gratitude towards several firefighting units and law enforcement agencies for their aid in containing a wildland fire that broke out in the finger lakes area Thursday.

The Essex Fire Protection District responded to the call for assistance and was joined by several firefighting units and law enforcement agencies from surrounding communities, including the South Wilmington Fire Department, Salina Township Fire Protection District, Braidwood Fire Department, Herscher Fire, Braceville Fire Protection District, Reddick Fire Department, and Kankakee County Police.

“Fighting Wildland/brush fires in the Finger Lakes is very challenging, and we are grateful for all those that showed up to help,” said the Essex Fire Protection District in a statement. “We wanted to thank everyone for the assistance with our wildland fire today.”

The coordinated efforts of the emergency responders helped to contain the blaze and prevent any further damage to the surrounding areas. No injuries or casualties were reported in connection with the fire.

The events took place in Essex, Illinois. Wildland fires are common occurrences in Illinois, and officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent fires from starting. They have also urged residents to report any sightings of wildland fires immediately to the relevant authorities to prevent them from spreading further.

According to the University of Purdue’s Midwest Regional Climate Center, Illinois averages around 57 wildfires each year.
