Wilmington, IL – Firefighters sprang into action around 4 p.m. today as reports of a full still alarm brush fire reached station.

The alarm signaled a large field engulfed in flames at the intersection of S Old Chicago Road and W Kahler Road. Compounding the already challenging situation were heavy wind conditions.

Multiple fire departments, including Braidwood, Elwood, Channahon, Manhattan, Coal City, and Bourbonnais, swiftly dispatched their teams to assist the Wilmington FPD.

As a precautionary measure, authorities promptly closed down Kahler Road to ensure the unimpeded movement of emergency responders.

Firefighters are currently on the scene, battling against the roaring flames and diligently protecting nearby structures.
