Semi vs. Train Crash in Wilmington causing delays Tuesday

WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP – Wilmington was rattled early Tuesday morning when the front end of a semi-trailer collided with a train at the railroad crossing on Lorenzo Road and Cottage. 

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred on the west side gates of the tracks.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the scene and ensured the area was secured. BNSF crews are currently present, manually controlling traffic at the crossing until the damaged crossing gates can be restored to full functionality.

While the debris has been cleared, residents and commuters are advised to expect traffic delays and slow-moving trains at the Lorenzo Road and Cottage crossing throughout the day. The damaged caused by the accident necessitates caution and patience from all road users.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office urges motorists to remain vigilant and follow the directions of BNSF crews until normal operations can be resumed.

As investigations into the accident continue, local authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of Wilmington Township residents and maintain smooth traffic flow in the affected area.
