PEORIA, Ill. — Mike Kirkton, a decorated U.S. Army veteran, seasoned businessman, and fourth-generation farmer, officially announced his candidacy for the 53rd Illinois State Senate District today. The current senator, Tom Bennett, has chosen not to run for re-election.
“I want to be a strong, common-sense, conservative voice for the people of the 53rd Senate District,” declared Kirkton Tuesday. “I will work to protect the rights of the unborn, as well as being a strong voice defending our Second Amendment rights. I am committed to helping fight for lower taxes, smaller government and helping to provide the necessary tools for our small businesses to grow without government interference.”
Kirkton, a graduate of Illinois State University as father of five, earned a Bronze Star for his valiant efforts in the Gulf War. He has also shown commitment to public service, with roles on the Livingston County Board and as the CEO of Top View Farms.
Representing multiple counties including Peoria, McLean, and Tazewell, the 53rd District seeks a leader who understands its unique challenges.
