In a terms of service updated earlier today, Spotify is now explicitly banning ad blockers.  A new rule that states “circumventing or blocking advertisements in the Spotify Service, or creating or distributing tools designed to block advertisements in Spotify Service,” can result in the immediate termination or suspension of your account.

It’s clear; Spotify is serious about ad blockers.

Only 2% of Spotify’s free users were using ad blockers through modded apps and accounts, Spotify has begun cracking down by disabling the accounts seen with abnormal activity.  Emails were sent prior to the deactivation, and in rare cases, Spotify would disable service to the user.

The new terms go into effect March 1st.  The company turned a profit for the first time in their 13 year history last earnings report.
