A former Olivet standout has signed with a professional Dutch Soccer team.
Job Derksen, who transferred to Olivet Nazarene University in the Summer 2019 from HSC Haaksbergen, signed the professional contract with F.C. Twente earlier this year. Derksen originally hails from the Netherlands and will now play for the first division Netherlands professional circuit.
Derksen’s time at Olivet was short, only playing with the team for a season. His next challenge will entail playing in front of a crowd of 30,000 a match.
In a recent interview with KingsTalent, Derksen said he was surprised at the hierarchy in American Coaching tactics.
“What I found is that the American sports culture is something different than the Dutch one. Despite the fact that I got along well with my coach, he was not wanting for my opinion about, for example, our tactical view. I noticed that I was having trouble not doing anything about it.” Derksen says describing his time in the Olivet program. “The hierarchy in America is a lot different; the coach says something you have to do it with it. The Dutch coaches I have had wanted you to think along.”
Derksen said his time at Olivet was cut short because it’s always been his dream to play in professional football.
