AURORA, IL – The serenity of an Aurora residential neighborhood was deeply marred today when a 47-year-old man was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound in the backyard of a house on the city’s east side.

According to Aurora Police Department (APD) reports it happened just before noon when urgent 9-1-1 calls alerted officers  to a shooting incident on N. Calhoun Street. The rapid response of officers and the Aurora Fire Department Paramedics could not save the grievously injured victim, who was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The identity of the man is being carefully protected, pending the notification of his family.

While APD’s Bureau of Investigations and Evidence Technicians delve into the circumstances surrounding the shocking incident, the perpetrator remains at large.

The Aurora community is being called upon to assist in the ongoing investigation. Information can be provided directly to Aurora Police’s Investigations Division or anonymously via the Aurora Area Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for critical leads.
