ORLAND PARK – A 23-year-old Chicago man has been indicted on five felony counts in connection with armed robberies occurring in New Lenox, Mokena, and Orland Park in recent months.
Officers report an investigation into recent armed robberies in the south suburbs, area officers located and arrested Tyron Harris of Chicago after locating him in Gary Indiana on September 18th.
According to Orland Park Police, officers first became involved in the case on September 15th after investigating an armed hijacking attempt at an Orland Park Cleaners where a victim had left an area Cleaners and was robbed, having his car keys and cash taken in the process. At the time, suspects were unable to start the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene shortly afterward in a car previously reported as stolen, fleeing eastbound at the time on 143rd Street.
During an investigation into the incident, it was determined the suspect was connected to other area cases including an armed vehicular hijacking in New Lenox in August and another armed vehicle hijacking occurring in Mokena in early September. Orland Park Police investigating the case with New Lenox and Mokena Police Departments and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) saw Harris develop as a suspect at the time.
Harris was extradited back to Illinois to the Will County Jail on September 30th where he had been held on a 1.6 million bond from charges in the New Lenox, Mokena, and Monee area. Due to COVID related restrictions, Harris’ indictment was delayed. Charges were granted through the Grand Jury of Cook County on December 17th.
Harris has been charged with Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), Attempted Vehicular Hijacking (Class 1 Felony), Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), and Theft (Class 4 Felony).
