According to reports from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrived at a residence near S. Lincoln Highway and Lily Cache Road to find a scene of violence: a woman and a child held up inside a bathroom after both had been reportedly attacked by their landlord.

The landlord, later identified as Joseph M. Czuba, 71, of Plainfield, was found injured outside the home. Inside, officers discovered the 32-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds and an eight-year-old boy in grave condition.
