SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Patrick Joyce has successfully passed a measure that seeks to increase fire prevention education for children throughout Illinois.

Joyce’s proposal would create certified youth firesetter interventionists positions within the Division of Arson Investigation in the Office of the State Fire Marshal, who will work alongside schools, families, and organizations to provide education and guidance on fire safety.

The legislation aims to equip children with the knowledge to make responsible decisions and prevent accidental fires.

House Bill 2372 passed the Senate with overwhelming support. Joyce hopes the measure will ultimately promote public safety and decrease fire incidents.
