BOURBONNAIS – Gov. Pritzker announced this afternoon Region 7 restrictions could be lifted as early as this weekend. The ease of restrictions would allow restaurants and bars to reopen for indoor service in the area.
“Last week I said that I was hopeful that Region 7, that’s Will and Kankakee counties, might become a testament to a community ability to turn their ship around. Well, I’m very happy to say my hopefulness hasn’t been unwarranted.” Gov. Pritzker said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
For the first time since August, Illinois’ rolling seven-day positivity rate had fallen to 6.4 percent Wednesday. It’s the first time since August the rolling positivity rate has fallen below the 6.5 mitigation level set by the state.
“IDPH will continue to watch that positivity over the next few days, and if that trend holds for three days, we will remove the resurgence mitigations and return the entire region to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan.” the Governor said Wednesday.
Illinois has been under mitigation since late August and saw a high of 8.8 percent during the mitigation period.
