KANKAKEE, IL – A Kankakee resident shared a frightening experience on the Neighbors App on Tuesday, stating that a dark grey Hyundai Elantra chased her at high speeds.
The incident happened around 1 pm when the resident was parked on the side of the road. She reported that a black male was the only occupant of the car, and she had no idea why he was following her.
“He was getting on my bumper, so I thought it might have been an attempt at a rear-ending/ carjacking situation,” the resident reported. “Once he sped up and got on my left side, I was able to make a right turn and lose him, but even then he braked and tried to catch up to me.”
With Illinois ranking #6 nationwide for carjackings, the resident’s experience is a reminder to always be aware of one’s surroundings. Thieves are using new tactics to lure drivers out of their cars, including leaving $5 bills under their windshield wipers while the car is running. Once the driver exits the car to retrieve the money, thieves jump in and drive away.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, it is important to contact your local police immediately.
The resident’s post on the Neighbors App serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and stay safe while driving. Anyone who has information related to the incident should contact the local police department.
