CHICAGO – An alarming road rage incident has regular drivers of I-55 on edge. On Thursday, Illinois State Police (ISP) arrested 39-year-old Jose Gonzalez from Chicago, following an incident where he allegedly fired a gun on Interstate 55.
According to Illinois State Police reports the incident reportedly took place at 1:38 p.m. near 1st Avenue in Cook County. The targeted vehicle, belonging to an unnamed victim, was reportedly struck by bullets discharged from a Truck Tractor Semi-Trailer (TTST). Thankfully, the victim remained unharmed.
The drama intensified as ISP agents identified Gonzalez, the TTST driver, as the primary suspect. Subsequently, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office slapped him with a Class 1 Felony charge for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.
Gonzalez was released later in the day after a detention hearing at Bridgeview Courthouse, in line with the Pretrial Fairness Act’s provisions. While Gonzalez enjoys his freedom for now, the public remains vigilant, bearing in mind that all accused are considered innocent until proven otherwise.
