Iroquois County in Illinois has been recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as one of the top counties in the state for both corn and soybean production. The county, which is home to 1,516 of the state’s more than 71,000 farms, boasts 96% family-owned farms and supports 3,658 jobs, accounting for an estimated 38% of total jobs in the county.

The USDA’s recognition of Iroquois County’s success in corn and soybean production highlights the county’s contribution to statewide agriculture. In addition to Iroquois County, other top corn producing counties in Illinois include McLean, Livingston, Champaign, and LaSalle. Iroquois County also ranked as the fourth top soybean producer in the state.

The Iroquois County Board’s recent resolution in support of Iroquois County Agriculture further demonstrates the county’s commitment to the industry and its importance to the state’s economy. The resolution acknowledges the valuable jobs created, taxes generated, technologies embraced, and environmental practices implemented by farmers.

As agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s rural way of life, Iroquois County’s recognition and continued support for the industry serve as an example of the vital role agriculture plays in the state’s economy and the importance of its continued growth and success.
